Berkeley ADU Feasibility Study

Architect

Alexandra Waterson, TYPHOON STUDIO

Year

2022

Status

Unbuilt

This ADU feasibility study proposes a compact two-level custom design nestled on a quiet cul-de-sac in Berkeley adjacent to the existing three bedroom two bathroom home, designed to support a growing family expecting a new baby. The main level includes a kitchenette, living and sitting area, private bedroom, bathroom, and closet to comfortably accommodate visiting in-laws, while an upper loft provides a dedicated desk space for a work-from-home parent. The design emphasizes natural materials—warm wood cladding, concrete paving, and a wood deck—paired with large windows and native California landscaping to create a simple, modern structure that blends into its residential setting while expanding the home’s flexibility for family, guests, and remote work.
